You’ve probably heard about people plumping their thinning lips with dermal fillers. But, did you know you can achieve softer, pillowy lips with FDA-approved Botox® using a treatment called the lip flip?
Here’s what you need to know to decide if the lip flip is right for you.
What exactly is a lip flip?
A Botox lip flip is a fast and effective way to improve the appearance of your lips without surgery or fillers. With a few strategically placed injections, Botox helps your upper lip relax.
This is because Botox blocks the signal between your nerves and muscles. As a result, your lip rolls forward and up a little, making more of it visible. This gives you the appearance of a fuller upper lip.
How long before I see results from a lip flip?
Everyone’s a little different, but most of our patients see noticeable results within a few days of their injections. You can expect to see full results after about a week, and your lip flip can last 3-6 months.
If you’re considering a lip flip, be sure to choose a qualified aesthetic provider who has lots of lip flip experience, such as Shondra. Shondra has the experience needed to give you naturally fuller lips.
While Botox is safe when used correctly, inexperience can lead to mistakes. Providers not familiar with lip flips tend to overtreat the upper lip. This can affect your ability to move your lips normally. For example, with too much Botox, you might not be able to drink from a straw until the medication wears off.
Why choose a lip flip over fillers?
Both fillers and the Botox lip flip can provide dramatic results, but some people are better suited to one therapy over the other.
The Botox lip flip might be for you if:
- You want a subtle but more prominent pout to your upper lips
- You feel like your upper lips are too thin or “disappear” when you smile
- You want your lips to look fuller but don’t want to add volume
- You’re happy with a treatment that lasts 3-6 months
If you’re hoping to add volume to your upper and/or lower lips, want to minimize vertical lip lines, or have symmetry issues you’d like to treat, lip fillers may be the better option. Sometimes, our providers combine the Botox lip flip and dermal fillers for patients with very thin lips.
